can you be a Nikon and Canon girl?

I hope the answer is yes because I'm now both. I have used Nikon for the last 12 years. When I first started taking pictures as a paid photographer, I was using my husbands camera he had gotten when he was 12. It was fully manual...not even auto focus. It was a Canon AE1. I truly learned how to take a good picture from that camera. I also got back many rolls of film that were black or completely out of focus. But I loved it. I soon decided after making some money to purchase a new camera and it was Nikon. I've been a Nikon girl ever since. Changing over to digital was a huge step for me~ I said I wouldn't do it. I was determined to remain a black and white film photographer. When my daughter was born four years ago, I thought I'd give digital a try just to see what all the buzz was about. I haven't picked up my F5 since. For the last 12 years, I have been a Nikon girl.

When you read some many photography related sites and blogs, you start to get camera envy. How cool to make a video while you are shooting. I thought how great it would be to have the Canon 5D Mark II
But I'm a Nikon girl, right? I couldn't convert...that would be cheating. Then my favorite photography website {other than Savvy} started a great affilliate contest. The grand prize was a 5D II. It's not cheating if you win one! Kendra, the creator of
Clickin' Moms , is the most generous person in this business. She has the best affiliate program around...and when you love a site, it's easy to brag about it. Her membership drive was a tremendous success...so many Savvy readers have signed up and have shared how much they are enjoying the forum. Most are still stalkers {reading but not jumping in on conversations}...I think I'm mostly a stalker. I like to read and learn and gather great info... which is fine for me.

Let's get back to the contest...Kendra offered amazing prizes and it has been like Christmas here. First the UPS guy delivered a Wacom. I still don't know how to use it~ can you believe that! Next was the box from B&H...the 5D II. oh my...I was thrilled!

But I didn't have any Canon lenses. I really wanted to try the 1.2. I have the 50mm 1.4 that I love...but since I have a new camera, why not try the 50mm f/1.2 . I have become the biggest fan of Amazon. I ordered the 1.2 at noon on a Friday and it was at my door at 10:30am the next day...for the shipping cost of $3.99!! During Christmas we signed up for Amazon prime shipping for $79 for the year. It gives you free two shipping on most things { i only shop for things with the prime shipping}...you can upgrade to overnight for $3.99. It was the absolute best during Christmas when the snow prevented the kids from going to school the three days before Christmas break. This was going to be my shopping days, instead we were snowed in. I got on Amazon and ordered everything! It was all delivered for free with two day shipping.

I'm jumping back to my clickinmoms story...so I'm a Canon lover and a Nikon lover...I can be both! I do love the 5D. There is so much to learn about it... I still get confused how to use my Nikon that I've had it for a couple of years...so many buttons and going back and forth between cameras and models leaves me dumbfounded.
I am anxious to share more about the camera and to share more about the ipad...yes, i won that too! My kids are also anxious to have breakfast so i must go for now.

I can't wait to share with you all an amazing giveaway coming soon to the Savvy from Kendra at Clickin' Moms
...seriously...you will drop your jaw when you hear!

  3. I loved your article. Now I'm curious. Which photo above was taken with a Canon, and which with a Nikon?

On another note, everytime I meet up with a flickr friend, they all have Canon's. I have a Nikon, and now that I want to invest in some of those really high powered lenses, I get into a serious debate with myself about Canon.

    Lovely article!

  5. Wow, congratulations on all your winnings. I have never shot with a Canon, but if I won one, I would have no problem using both. I just went with Nikon because it was the most similar to my Minolta from years gone by.

  6. I agree...I think it's just a Chevy-Ford scenario. It's all what you get used to. I love my "Nikki" and enjoy the HD video on the D90, but don't mind when I pick up my Dad's Canon Rebel XTi either! :-)
