How would you describe your style of photography?
It has always been difficult for me to describe into words (I have an accounting background, we aren’t known for our use of eloquent words); however, my best attempt would describe my style as bold, clean and colorful.

What first drew you in to photography?
I remember always bringing my camera to school fieldtrips, but people were rarely in my photos. Then, my friends always counted on me to document our lives (growing I’d have to print doubles to hand out). Wow, I just showed my age! Like many out there, my passion for photography grew after the birth of my daughter. However, it wasn’t until after my son was born did I decide to start my business.

Do you work out of your home or a studio?
I work out of my home. I dream about owning one of the gorgeous studios that the Savvy Photographer features, but I do love the freedom of solely photographing on-location.

Tell us about your business before the Savvy workshop?
My business was very new. I was only one year into my business so I learned so much through the Savvy workshop through all the speakers who were so generous to be so open and share their expertise and experience, as well as through all the other workshop attendees.

How has it changed since returning?
In the next year after the Savvy workshop, my business grew by 150%. I was much more confident in my abilities and how to grow my business and boy did it show in the results!

What do you think is the most important thing you learned from the Savvy workshop?
Hands down, the most important thing I learned while I was at the Savvy workshop was how to shoot in manual. The workshop did not focus on the technical aspect but I learned this from watching and asking a lot of questions while I was at the workshop of both the speakers and my fellow savvy sisters. The little lightbulb went off on what those markings were for in my camera! I also starting shooting in RAW. I can’t even believe that I was shooting any other way and it truly does show in my photos.

What was your favorite part?
My favorite part of the workshop was meeting all my savvy sisters and speakers. We all bonded over those three days, even having a pajama party on the last night. It’s amazing how quickly you bond with those that have the same passion as you. I am forever grateful for this.

Fun facts we want to know about you~
I love the smell of hamburgers on the grill, the first smell of the bay/ocean coming over the bridge to the beach, and the smell of freshly iron-on shirts – I know weird, huh? I have a weakness towards anything Lilly Pulitzer – I can’t get enough of pink and green (so I updated my logo this year to incorporate that).

Favorite Savvy indulgence~
I would be a terrible dieter – I couldn’t go without cheeseburgers, French fries, ice cream, and coke (particularly a good fountain soda). I also over indulge in blog stalking when I have the time!

Favorite place to shop~
Currently, my favorite place to shop is on Etsy for both photography goodies as well as handmade clothing for my daughter.

Favorite vacation spot~
Ocean City, NJ – we head down to my mom’s condo as many times as we can! We also just got back from Disney World – I do think it is the most magical place on earth!

Favorite blogs to visit~
Way too many to list but of course one of my top picks has always been Savvy Photographer. Most of the blogs I visit are photography related.

Favorite subject to photograph~
Babies and children

Favorite products you sell to your clients~
Canvases are by far my favorite. I also like the mini accordions, particularly for newborns. Great marketing tool too!

Favorite thing about being a photographer~
The connections I make with my clients.
Describe your perfect day~

My perfect day….that would include waking up without my alarm clock anywhere where there is a beach or a pool on an 85 degree perfect day without anything pressing on my to do list.

Your Name:Andrea Sholders

Location:Burke, Va (NORTHERN VA)

How would you describe your style of photography?
I like to describe my style as light and airy, crisp and clean.

What first drew you in to photography?
I have always loved photography. I took classes in hight school, but since I was an athlete I chose to pursue soccer in college. I didn’t get back into photography again until I had my first child in 2006.

Do you work out of your home or a studio?
I currently work out of my home and on location, however I have plans to create a space in our home very soon. I can’t wait!

Tell us about your business before the Savvy workshop?
Before Savvy I was unsure about where I wanted to go with my business. I met all of these wonderful, amazing women and it showed me that I loved what we all did and I could make it a reality.  I currently work full-time
as a special education physical education teacher and photography is my “on the side” thing that is slowly growing. I am excited about the growth I have made since Savvy and for what is to come.

How has it changed since returning?
I now know what I need to do and I do my best to get it done.
Obviously I don’t always have time to do it all now, but I have learned to take it one day at a time.

What do you think is the most important thing you learned from the Savvy
workshop?
I think the most important thing that I learned is that I can take my business to any level I would like. It can be a part-time thing and when I’m ready I can take it further.  It has been so much fun seeing all of the Savvy sisters grow!

What was your favorite part?
Meeting so many amazing women who were at all different levels of photography and business.

Fun facts we want to know about you:
Favorite Savvy indulgence~
Ice Cream!!

Favorite place to shop~
H+M for clothes, ETSY for all kinds of things :)

Favorite vacation spot~
I’d love to go to Figi one day, but for now Jamaica was one of our favorite vacations

Favorite blogs to visit~
I love Savvy of course!  Keeping up with blogs lately has been difficult. I have a few forums that I frequent and have made some great friends while participating and learning. I’m even teaching my own beginner’s level workshop for Moms called Camp Mamarazzi.

Favorite subject to photograph~
I am narrowing my focus to newborns, infants, children and families. I just love the simplicity and innocence of newborns.  It is such an art and I enjoy it so much.

Favorite products you sell to your clients~
I love to sell BIG prints,  and love to see them hung in my clients homes. I also love to design, so birth announcements and invitations are a fav.

Favorite thing about being a photographer~
Preserving my clients memories and seeing them smile when they see their images.

Describe your perfect day~
Waking up to sunny and 70, chocolate chip pancakes with my husband and 3 kids,  playing outside, drinks with friends and neighbors, and maybe finish it off with a movie under the stars. Lot’s of laughs and cuddles make a blissful day!

meet Dani Dunn

Your Name:  Dani Dunn

Location: Philadelphia, PA

How would you describe your style of photography?
Fun, emotional, warm, simple

What first drew you in to photography?
Like most, the desire to preserve a moment in time.  I think I initially had a desire to capture light and how it fell on its subjects.  When I realized what it meant to capture an emotional moment in the midst of gorgeous light, I was hooked!

Do you work out of your home or a studio?  I have a home office and shoot on-location.

Tell us about your business before the Savvy workshop?
I was still gaining courage…

How has it changed since returning?
I came home from the workshop inspired and confident, able to see the value in myself and my work.  As a result, my business was created!

What do you think is the most important thing you learned from the Savvy workshop?
While the technical part of photography is tremendously important, it’s only the foundation for beautiful work.  Sometimes you need to set aside what is considered “correct” and allow your creative eye to capture the light and the moment, as it’s occurring before you.   I had put such tremendous pressure on myself to learn the technicalities that I was stifling my creative energy.  Not anymore!

What was your favorite part?
The workshop emphasized not only how to be a phenomenal photographer, but how to be a better person.

Fun facts we want to know about you:
Favorite Savvy indulgence~
A Heath bar, People magazine and a sunny spot to enjoy both!

Favorite place to shop~
I’m not one to shop often, but when I do, I’ll take an auction, yard sale or flea market over a mall any day!

Favorite vacation spot~
Anywhere with a beach!!!

Favorite blogs to visit~
I don’t follow very many blogs religiously other than The Savvy Photographer!

Favorite subject to photograph~
Children!  They’re so uninhibited with such a tremendous variety of expressions!  I love when you really start to engage them and you can just see the sparkle in their eye.  And, as a pediatric occupational therapist by trade, children with special needs are held close to my heart.

Favorite products you sell to your clients~
I’m just beginning to explore different products.  Currently I offer prints, canvases and albums.

Favorite thing about being a photographer~
The ability to allow individuals to see their beautiful moments with their loved ones as others see them, from the outside looking in.  In the hustle and bustle of everyday life we don’t always realize how beautiful our interactions really are.

Describe your perfect day~
Any day when the sun is shining and I’m with those I love the most!
