Meet the October guest speaker at the Savvy Workshop~ Jen Wright

Welcome Jen Wright to the Savvy blog!

We are so excited Jen will be joining us in October at the Savvy Studio Workshop
We would love for our readers to know more about Jen and what they can expect to learn from her at the workshop.

Tell us a little about you~
~I grew up in a fairly small town in South GA but somehow managed to escape without much of a southern accent. :-)  I moved to Atlanta to attend college and received a bachelor's degree in business before deciding that one degree just wasn't enough (Oy!) and moving to California in 2006 to attend photography school. I graduated with a degree in Professional Photography in 2009 and had every intention of staying in Southern California and continuing to build my portrait business. In October 2009, fate stepped in with other plans. I was in an ATV accident and crushed 3 of the fingers on my right hand. I was forced to move home and closer to my family so that I could have some help. I've been here in Atlanta ever since.  Those fingers STILL don't bend and likely never will. I work around it though!

How long have you been in this industry?
~about 7 years -- Am I supposed to have some sort of itch for something different now? Ha.

Do you photograph mostly children? (tell about what you specialize in)
~Yes, I photograph mainly children and families. My very favorite thing to photograph are little girls with their dad's. There is just something about that relationship that absolutely melts my heart.

How would you describe your style of photography?
~I would say that my style is very simple and clean. I don't do much post processing work. I really love to just capture a beautiful moment in beautiful light. Yep, that's my style…as simplistic as it sounds.

Do you do in-person sales or online?
~a little bit of both. Mostly on-line but I am starting to add more in-person sales because I think the client's really do enjoy having their photographers opinion as to which images would look best where. I am hoping to go completely into in-person sales in 2014.

What will you teach the attendees at the Savvy workshop in October?
~I plan on teaching the absolute importance of getting your shot right in camera - know your settings, know your lighting, and really work on capturing the emotion in your subject -- everything else is secondary. In order to edit an image well, you must first have a great image to work with.  That is my opinion at least.

What equipment do you use?
~ I am really simple in my approach -- I use my D700 with a 50mm f/1.4G Lens. That's it. I always try out other lenses and keep going back to the 50. Maybe I am just a creature of habit but it works for me.

Thanks Jen!!

Camp Workshops, meeting fun people and photographing a lovely mama~ busy summer!

It's been a crazy busy summer here...as I'm sure all of you are feeling the effects of having kids home and less time to work. This blog has been neglected so much recently~ but in the end I'd rather say I neglected my blog more than my kids. So they have been a priority this summer...and I hope you understand. So basically I'm going to cram lots of info into one blog post...ready??

I went to camp...I've always wanted to say that...but it wasn't quite camp...it was a Summer Supper to kick off the launch of Camp Workshops...and it was lovely! My makeup artist (the lovely Claudia Mejerle) is one of the camp counselors and I heard about the event through her Facebook page...and I was dying to go. But had no desire to go by myself not knowing anyone else. I ended up picking up a fellow Atlanta photographer to attend with me~ even though we had never met before...it was a "blind supper date"...and I lucked out on having a great girl to attend with! Jen Wright (yep...you've probably heard of her if you follow the Baby As Art workshops) is the sweetest and funniest girl to spend an evening with (she's the blonde in the Instagram pics below...I told you she was fun). I also met some other fabulous people...and was completely honored to meet some Savvy readers! Nothing makes you feel better than having someone tell you that your blog changed their life and career path...makes it all worth it!!
 (Instagram pics below..pardon the quality)
Isn't it all adorable...they styled this event perfect...the branding, the food, the little touches made it all such a perfect evening out! To learn more about the Camp Workshop classes, visit their site and their Facebook page...maybe I'll see you at a class one day!

One of the wonderful girls I met at the supper was the lovely Anna from In Honor of Design. She runs a great blog and is extremely talented! She also is expecting her third baby...today!

And after meeting her and seeing her adorable belly, I knew I wanted to photograph her...and she agreed! So three days before her due date (which is today, did I already say that?) we got her in to the Savvy Studio and photographed away...and away. I couldn't stop (don't you know that feeling...you are getting so many great images and just keep going?) and I love the end result. To see more of her images, visit The Savvy Studio blog. (You can give us a like on Facebook too...we sure would love that!)

Thank you Anna for allowing me to capture this beautiful belly!
