{vendor week...day 5}

Firefly Frames and Design was created in 2007 with a touch of whimsy, beautiful materials, and attention to detail. We are Steve and Emily Formsma. We are blessed to be able to combine our skills in the creation of gorgeous frames for your studios, homes, and customers. Firefly Frames are now available in three collections; Straight, Curved, and Round. Firefly Frames are created with beautiful pine carefully selected for character and quality. No two frames are ever alike as the knots and grain pattern of each piece of wood is enhanced to display its unique character. The finishes created for our frames range from a distressed shabby chic to metallic glazes elegant enough for the finest of homes. We believe frames shouldn't distract from the artwork it surrounds but should rather be an accent that enhances it's beauty. We have worked hard to create unique and timeless frames to help you do just that with your artwork whether it be photographs or paintings. Firefly Frames are also used to frame mirrors for interior design use. We are confident that you will enjoy our frames as much as we do.

We are offering all Savvy followers 20% off with the following discount code: savvy
This discount code will be good through November 25.

{I hear they have found a lab ProLabExpress that is now offering round prints to fit their frames...how cool is that!}

"What is included in this e-course anyway (and what is not)?
For starters...me!

Ha. Really...what I mean by that is just straight up me. I am not stuffy, I am not all "business", I will be straight forward and honest, and just tell it the way I do things. I do not pretend to know it all...at all! I am still learning too...as is every artist and business person out there. For example, I am not a technical shooter...so if you are looking for that and are looking to crunch numbers...this is not the place. I do shoot manual and I do know what I am doing, but I break a lot of rules (as I have been told). I consider myself a feel shooter. I know what I want, what I like, and I do whatever I have to do to my camera to get the results I like. Its kinda liberating.

So...back on track. The workshop. It is a creative one...and a touch of a business one.
It will be a very "real" e-course.
-video tutorials
-live streaming video chat
-7 creative lessons to get you to push your boundaries, see the ordinary, not so ordinary.
-forum based center for questions, lesson plans, postings, critique, and just sharing
- me online daily to join in chat discussions and answer forum questions
-my personal vendor lists and discounts

Topics to be taught
-Finding the light (indoors & out)
-Backlighting
-Composition
-Perspectives
-Creativity (pushing your own boundaries)
-Posing
-Processing
-Growing your business as boutique or couture

I will touch a bit on my business and how I market myself. This is not a business workshop though, I will only touch on business bit.
Since it has been asked by many...how I handle being a busy mom of 3, run several businesses, and still sleep (a little). I want to push others to see this as more of an art than just a job...it will not only push your creative eye, but help your business, and separate you from the growing number of photographers out there.
And once we are in the forums and live chats...you ask...I will tell."

These images were taken on a day that we normally would have rescheduled the session. With the clients blessing and upcoming arrival we decided not to hide from Hurricane Ida but to face her head on. This just goes to show, with a little creativity and determination to step outside the norm...you can achieve awesome images in even the most unlikely of situations. We had winds of 10-15 mph, constant rain (even in the umbrellaless images) and a natural light studio with cloudy day lighting.

I will guide you on how to achieve this for yourself, your clients and your business. But you have to want it and work for it!

So while I don't have the money to throw into trainings and fancy logo designs and personalized stickers, I will work hard so my pictures speak louder than my logo and lack of stickers which I feel will eventually bring me the resources to address those needs in the future! Here's to hoping you give me a bit of a *bump* with this workshop!!!! :-) Twitter: @donnellprobst, facebook: donnellprobst, blog: www.donnellprobst.com. 100. My random act of kindness: I found out today that I have a friend who now has to work on Thanksgiving, so she and her family (three kids/hubby) won't make it back to her hometown in time for dinner. I invited them to come share Thanksgiving with us, and since she ran out and got a turkey this morning, we decided that we would donate one of our turkeys to a food pantry for the holiday and go without leftovers. I will miss my day-after-Thanksgiving turkey sandwiches, but someone will get a turkey for dinner this year instead. Small payoff!!!!

  104. O.k...here is my sweet story until I can get to the other postings and whatnot.

I had a gal e-mail me about two months ago. Her husband had lost his job 6 months prior and while they hoped he would find something it turned out that they had to sell their house and move into their grandparent's house. They loved the house they were in so much and its where they tried for years to have a baby (and finally did) where parents were lost, tears shed and laughter heard. She wanted me to capture some memories of her and her family in this house doing what they loved to do...be with each other.
I was so touched that she wanted to hire me (even with their financial hardship). I took the pictures...and told her to pay me later when I gave her the purchased CD. When the pictures where done I sent them to her through the mail and told her it was my gift. pay it forward....

  108. I think there is nothing better than random acts of kindness. I really try to keep my ears open for ways to be able to bless people with the gift the Lord has given me.....it's not my gift it belongs to Him. Recently I was able to do a newborn session for a couple that has very little income because they are in ministry and donate most of their time. There would have been no way for them to get photos done of their precious new baby boy. I was so excited to be able to offer to gift them a session. You know, they are some of my favorite images to date. I think it was more of a blessing to me than them!

  145. Finally...random act of kindness.....
I was in a supermarket yesterday with my 10 year old son. The young man stacking the limes in the produce section must have put one lime to many and ALL the limes (hundreds of them) came crashing to the floor in a waterfall cascade. He was in shock. My son and I began picking up the limes en mass and laughing and making a game of it...the young man was so thankful and so happy. We had it cleaned up in a jif and the young man realized that sometimes mistakes happen and its no big deal.
We were all smiling when we were done and my son was so proud that he helped someone out...he couldn't tell enough people about our escapades last night!

  146. My RAK was helping out my pregnant neighbor get her kids where they need to go. She is due any day and fairly miserable.

  147. Yesterday, I helped a woman at my daughter's school who just had surgery. I offered to take her son to school and bring him home, as well as take him to the school's movie night. She told me how appreciative of my acts because not only does she have this little boy, but a 1 year old and a disabled 18 year old son as well. It made my heart feel so good to know that I helped out in the small way that I could.

  151. My RAC for the day! Every year a local radio station DJ goes up on a lift and does not come down until he has reached a certain number of bikes. It is called Bikes or Bust. I donated my bike today.

  153. Not really a random act of kindness, but a deliberate one. Today, I gave my daughter's crib to a mother with a 8 month old baby that was sleeping on a mattress on the floor.

  155. RAK - On Friday I was at the park with my mothers group. One of the mums has a 10 month old son that she has NO pictures of! She said she couldn't afford to hire someone and with three other little ones, she just never takes any pictures herself. I had my camera in the car and spent the morning taking photos for her.
